Questions and answers
The things people ask us most, answered properly rather than in marketing language.
How quickly can you fit a new boiler?
If you have no heating or hot water we treat it as urgent and aim to fit within 24 to 48 hours of you accepting the quote. A standard swap takes a day; a conversion usually takes two.
Do I need a home visit to get a price?
No. Our quote tool gives you a guide price from a few questions. We survey before the work goes ahead so the final figure is confirmed in writing, but you do not need anyone in your house to find out roughly what it costs.
What is included in a boiler installation price?
The boiler, the fit, a full system flush, cleaner and inhibitor, a magnetic filter, controls, the pipework the swap needs, removal of the old unit, all certificates and warranty registration.
Are your engineers Gas Safe registered?
Yes, for all gas work, and we are happy to show you the card before we start. We also hold G3 for unvented cylinders and F-Gas for air conditioning.
Do you charge a call-out fee?
No. Boiler repairs carry a £75 diagnosis fee which comes off the bill if we fix it on the same visit. Plumbing is charged by the hour with a minimum first hour, told to you before we come.
How long does a boiler last?
A well-maintained modern boiler typically gives ten to fifteen years. Serviced annually it lands at the upper end of that. Never serviced, it lands at the lower end and usually fails at the worst moment.
How often should I service my boiler?
Every twelve months. It is also what almost every manufacturer guarantee requires, so skipping it can void your cover.
What size boiler do I need?
It depends on bathrooms, radiators and mains water flow rather than simply the size of the house. Too big is as bad as too small — it cycles, wears out and costs more to run.
Should I get a combi?
Usually yes for a three or four-bedroom house with one or two bathrooms. Not if you have three bathrooms in regular use or weak mains pressure. We check the flow rate before recommending one.
My pressure keeps dropping. What is wrong?
Either a leak on the system or a failed expansion vessel. Topping it up weekly treats the symptom. Get it looked at — a slow leak under a floor is much cheaper to find early.
Why are my radiators cold at the bottom?
Sludge. Cold at the top is trapped air and bleeding them is free; cold at the bottom means the system needs flushing.
Do you work on weekends?
Yes, for emergencies and by arrangement for commercial customers. Out-of-hours work is charged at a higher rate which we tell you before setting off.
Do you offer finance?
Yes, including interest-free options. Subject to status and credit checks, arranged through Phoenix Financial Consultants.
Do you install air conditioning?
Yes, by F-Gas qualified engineers. Single rooms from £1,850 and multi-room systems from £3,450. It heats as well as cools.
Can you fit a heat pump?
We are working through MCS certification, which is what the government grant requires. Until then we give honest advice on whether your home suits one and handle the insulation and radiator work that has to come first.
What areas do you cover?
Guildford, Woking, Godalming, Farnham, Weybridge, Virginia Water, Chobham, Esher, Twickenham, Richmond and the surrounding parts of Surrey and south-west London.
Are you insured?
Yes, with full public liability cover. We will send the certificate over if you want to see it.
What if I smell gas?
Ring the National Gas Emergency Service on 0800 111 999 immediately. Turn the gas off at the meter if you can reach it safely, open windows, do not touch electrical switches and leave the building.
