What usually goes wrong
It runs but does not cool
Nine times in ten this is low refrigerant, which means there is a leak somewhere. Topping it up without finding the leak is throwing money away — it will be warm again within months, and venting refrigerant is an offence. We find the leak first.
Water dripping from the indoor unit
Usually a blocked condensate drain. Air conditioning pulls a surprising amount of water out of the air and that has to go somewhere. The drain silts up with dust over a few years, backs up, and overflows into the room. It is a straightforward fix and entirely preventable with an annual service.
Noise that was not there before
A rattle is often a loose panel or a bracket that has worked free. A grinding or screeching noise from outside points at the fan motor or its bearings. A gurgle usually means refrigerant. They are very different jobs, which is why we listen to it rather than quote down the phone.
An error code on the display
Tell us the code when you ring. Codes are manufacturer specific, and knowing it in advance often means we bring the right part first time instead of coming twice.
What a repair visit involves
We check the fault you have described, then the things that commonly cause it: refrigerant pressures, the electrical supply and controls, the fan motors, the coils and filters, and the condensate drain. You get told what is wrong, what it costs to fix, and whether it is worth fixing, before any work starts.
When we will tell you to replace it
If a system is more than about twelve years old, has a leak in the coil, and needs a compressor, the repair can approach the cost of a new unit that will be considerably cheaper to run. We will say so. You are free to disagree and have it repaired anyway, but you will have the honest picture first.

We work on systems we did not install. If you have inherited air conditioning with the house and have no idea who fitted it or when it was last serviced, that is a very common starting point and not a problem.

Do you charge a call-out fee?
We charge a diagnosis fee, which is quoted to you on the phone before we set off. If we carry out the repair on the same visit, that comes off the bill.
How fast can you get to me?
It depends where you are and what the fault is. Ring us and we will tell you honestly rather than promising something we cannot keep.
Can you repair a system another company installed?
Yes. We work on all makes regardless of who fitted it.
Is a refrigerant top-up enough?
Only as a temporary measure. If refrigerant has gone, it has leaked, and it will leak again. It is also illegal to knowingly vent refrigerant, so we find and fix the leak.
